Live Digital Drawing — Performance Art

Il Sovversivo. Cantiere Sanbernardo, Pisa (2025).

Pisa, 7 May 1972. Franco Serantini, twenty years old, anarchist, son of no one, dies in prison after two days of beatings and abandonment. Fifty years after the first edition, the Biblioteca Franco Serantini commissioned a performance based on Corrado Stajano's book-inquiry, first published in 1975 and reissued by Il Saggiatore in 2019, enriched by drawings that sculptor Costantino Nivola had made privately in 1977, in the margins of his own copy of the book.

Seventy minutes, four acts, various readers, a live musician. Serantini's life told through passages from the book, testimonies and songs: an original composition by Duccio Ghelardoni, Dylan, De André, De Gregori, Nissim. Teller & K draw and animate live as the words unfold, working directly on stage with two iPads running Tagtool. The screen is the vertical altarpiece of the Cantiere Sanbernardo, a former church space where the projection becomes the backdrop of the performance. Figures, marks, presences. Some of the images are reinterpretations of original drawings by Costantino Nivola.

The poster design reframes Serantini's face as a graphic icon, a deliberate choice to give presence today to Franco.

About Teller & K

Teller & K is the artistic practice of Daniele Tabellini and Erika Gabbani. Based in Crespina, in the Pisan hills, since 2006, a choice they describe as an act of creative resistance. Their work moves between installation, performance and drawing, exploring the boundaries between open systems and artistic intervention, between digital and analogue, between individual and community. Their work has been presented internationally, from the MAM Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City to the MIS Museu da Imagem e do Som in São Paulo. Their current research focuses on the relationship between community, wild commons and new forms of contemporary ritual.
